Many of us are very aware of how frightening the horror genre can be in VR. From jump scares to being chased down a dark hall by demons, it can be an exhilarating experience. But, not everyone up for that kind of terror. Some folks just like to enjoy the season, bladder intact, at a mild pace. So, let us take a look at what treats are available in Halloween VR that won’t scare the pants off you.
AltspaceVR is always packed with a wide range of events for all walks of life and Halloween is no exception. This week you will find events like a spooky VR costume party taking the center stage. If that doesn’t tempt your sweet tooth, how about an open mic night for sharing scary stories? Who doesn’t love a good scary story?
However, my personal favorite event has got to be the Midnight Monster Movies hosted by Dr. Bob Tesla. This will be a three-night event serving up Christopher R. Mihm’s classic monster movie,”The Giant Spider”. Don’t worry, it’s more cheese than scream, but definitely a good time.
As we have covered earlier this week, Echo Arena has undergone a rather spooktacular change this Halloween season. From now until November 1st, all you have to do is simply log into Echo Arena and play a match and you will collect some seasonal rewards. I had a chance to check them out personally, after getting my butt handed to me in a match, and they are actually really good looking. You know, if you’re into the undead look.
The staging area is also dressed up for the season. Ready at Dawn really put on a good show, complete with witches on brooms and oversized zombie boxing gloves. It is worth checking out and spending a little time with your fellow VR enthusiasts. You simply won’t find a better community of players to make fart jokes with over a bubbling witches cauldron.
Kartong – Death by Cardboard
Kartong is a little creepy for a game that has you running around cardboard dioramas. However, it is not going to have you punching a wall or squealing like a terrified child so it makes this list. Right now, Kartong has its own seasonal event going on that gives its, already odd, game a little Halloween flair.
From now until November 6th, you can jump in and see how Mr.Chuckles celebrates the season. It is also worth mentioning that Kartong is on sale for the next 42 hours. At 40% off, you can check out this awkwardly fun game for only $5.39. That is a treat.
Mindshow recently released its Spooky Mansion Playset that will, no doubt, get you into character this Halloween. You can choose from a skeleton, werewolf, or ghost and shoot very own scary movie. Mindshow is even hosting a “who’s the scariest” contest that has people from all over the world adding their videos to a growing community playlist. Even if you don’t want to compete, you should watch the videos for a good laugh.
If you are new to Mindshow, it basically makes you the director of your very own Pixar studio. You can find out more about it here. It is simple, fun, and during its early access on Steam its free! Let us know if you have your own Mindshow video starring one of the spooky three in the comments below.
