Carbon Studio has announced that their enchanting VR spellcaster The Wizards will be leaving Early Access on March 8th. The game’s full release brings with it some more fearsome creatures in new story chapters that concludes The Wizards story, and lets players upgrade their spells to even more powerful versions.
The Wizards released on Steam and the Oculus Store last year and have been in Early Access for nearly seven months. It’s an action-adventure that adds you to the ranks of magnificently powerful wizards with the ability to cast fire, lightning and other spells in fast-paced combat against all sorts of creatures. You invoke these spells by drawing certain runes in the air with your wand and letting loose some spellbinding whoopass. The game also has a narrated story campaign that takes you to mesmerizing locations all across the realm to take part in epic battles.
When we first got our hands on the game, I noted in my review that “The Wizards is, in its essence, a wave shooter. But there’s a bit more to it than simply killing orcs and taking names. Though the orcs do form a large part of the game, it balances out the wave shooter mechanics with some exploration, discovery, and a mysterious world full of lore and mythical creatures.”
A Tale Of Fire And Teleportation
During those months in EA, the game got a variety of new enemies, spells, and levels that more than doubled the length of the game.Carbon Studio also reworked the game’s movement system during this period to add free movement and free teleportation, after player feedback indicated the limitations of node-based teleportation.
The Wizards will be fully released March 8th, 2018 priced at $20 and supports HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality Headsets. The PSVR version of the game is set to release at a later date this year, that’s still to be announced. So if you’re in the mood to flex your wizard powers and engage in epic fights with dragons, then make sure to check The Wizards out when it releases.
Carbon Studio partnered with the team at LIV, who developed a plugin that enables MR in Unreal Engine and Unity games, to create a mixed reality trailer for The Wizards full release.
“We had a blast helping Carbon Studio get set up with Mixed Reality for The Wizards, and showing off some of our camera and avatar technology. We are excited to see this team take spellcasting in VR to the next level,” said LIV Co-founder AJ “Dr Doom” Shewki
