Frogs have featured as main characters in many a video game since the early adaptations of Frogger. So naturally, the frog has hopped its way onto our VR headsets as well, making a nice home for itself in the recesses of early game adoption.
VRog is an arcade game that simulates the environment of our good-natured amphibian friends. Having been released for GearVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive earlier this year, VRog is now also available for PSVR on the EU Playstation Store at a £6.49 (GBP) price tag. Though our friends over the big pond need not worry. ByteRockers Games are also planning on releasing the game on the North American and Japan regions sometime towards the end of August 2017.

For those unfamiliar with the game, VRog takes the simple controls that you would normally find on a mobile VR headset and directly translates them to other VR platforms. Instead of any controllers, you play as the frog and your HMD acts as the main controller for its head. So no Move controllers are necessary for this game. Your head movement and where you look decides your actions as you hop from one lily pad to another, catching flies and other insects in VRog.
VRog has three gameplay modes that include arcade, party mode, and survival mode. In arcade mode you simply try to get as many flies as you can within a certain time. As for in survival, you have to dodge the terrible stork while keeping your energy up with as many insects as you can. Finally, in party mode, you can try to beat others on an online scoreboard that resets every 12 hours. There are different insects to catch during the day and night cycles in this game, including wasps, dragonflies, and lady bugs.
I wouldn’t say this game, with it’s simple colorful graphics and even simpler gameplay is geared towards adults exactly, though you might enjoy it. Your kids (or the kids you made up to justify buying this game) might enjoy it a lot more.
