Even after being on the VR gaming market since 2016, Vertigo Games’ action-packed zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine is still topping the list of top selling VR titles on Steam two years later. Now, the studio is aiming to expand their VR empire with the launch of a new and separate company entitled Vertigo Arcades. This new company is a VR arcade publisher and technology provider aimed at driving the success of VR developers, large-scale VR arcades, and entertainment venues.
Vertigo Arcades will also offer a content launcher called VR Arcade Suite for free-roaming location-based (LB) VR titles that will connect VR developers and VR arcades. Along with that comes tech support, publishing services to help game developers, and an API for integrating a variety of key arcade features like tracking systems, peripherals, spectator and mixed reality functionality, and more in both LB VR and core VR titles. All of which they will be able to adjust and test to create the optimum experience for users.
Along with both Vertigo Games’ two major titles, Arizona Sunshine and their RTS and turn-based strategy combo game Skyworld, the company also has other popular titles like Space Pirate Trainer, Island 359, and the upcoming A Fisherman’s Tale signed on. Along with the software, the company will also provide technical support and is an official reseller of LB VR and arcade hardware, which means that if you’re looking to start up a VR arcade in your area, that you’ll have an all-in-one partner through which to implement and run warehouse-scale VR experiences.
“Vertigo Arcades leverages its existing network of developers and physical footprint to grow the out-of-home VR revenue for our partners,” said Managing Director Richard Stitselaar. “From developer tools to in-arcade marketing and promotions, we’re working to make this market more accessible for consumers, VR arcades, and VR game developers alike. It’s our belief that larger, warehouse-scale experiences of VR games like Arizona Sunshine – LB VR Edition are a key part of expanding consumer interest and increasing the business viability of VR development.”
Along with this new VR arcade venture, Vertigo Games are also working on a custom LB VR title based on Arizona Sunshine in partnership with Nomadic. This title will leverage Nomadic’s cutting-edge tactile technology to bring the post-apocalyptic world of Arizona Sunshine to life in a whole new way and grant players complete immersion at Nomadic locations. Arizona Sunshine – LB VR Edition is set to hit Nomadic locations this Fall.
