It’s always fun to be the hero of the story and make your way towards becoming a champion for good. But the great thing about games is that they allow us to be nearly anything we want, including the things that haunt people’s nightmares. And sometimes that’s all you want to be for a while, which is why it’s a good thing that developer Delta Reality in partnership with Misfit Village has brought us the opportunity to do just that through their newly released title, Tainted Fate.
Created for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality, this horrifically exciting title has just released on Early Access on Steam at a $14.99 price tag, though it does currently have a 10% launch discount going, which puts it at $13.49 until June 4. Before you jump right in, however, think twice about Tainted Fate if you’ve got a weak stomach – this game is not for the faint of heart. And I’m not talking about locomotion!
Violent video games have been around for a long time and have been criticized for almost just as long, with the trend making a comeback in the USA recently. Of course, that hasn’t had all that much an impact in stopping developers from making them and so we’ve seen amazing (but brutally gruesome) titles like Hatred, and more recently for VR, Gorn emerge from developer’s desks. While I personally don’t have a problem with these types of game, there are some that do and so Tainted Fate will probably get added to that list of games to avoid. However, if you’re up for some uncontrollable viciousness while using a VR controller then this is just the game you’ve been looking for.
Tainted Fate puts you in the shoes of a demon called Decarabia who has been resurrected from hell against his (or her – I don’t know if demons have genders) will. Obviously, you’re obscenely pissed off about this and being a remorseless demon, you’re going on a rampage to get back to hell and kill your boss, because why not. So any poor soul who stands in your way will be feeling the pain and Tainted Fate packs a lot of souls in your way. This game doesn’t hold back when it comes to violence and foul language, with a potty-mouthed main protagonist who likes to spew quirky one-liners along with his rage.
Check out the trailer:
While traversing the world and making your way back to hell, you’ll have multiple ways in which to slay those who stand in your way, human and demon alike. From ripping apart limbs and clubbing someone with a foot to summoning your minions and bringing a bit of hell over to this plane. The game supports both teleportation and smooth locomotion so you can travel in the way that best suits your demonic heart’s desires. Much like in Doom VFR, Tainted Fate even allows you to teleport into your enemies for an instant kill.
So when judging from what we’ve seen and heard of this game so far, it might not be the most polished experience visually, nor does it offer anything much deeper than getting to the bowels of your enemies and stringing them up as decoration. But that doesn’t mean the game doesn’t have a lot of fun to offer. Plus it’s not just another sandbox wave game that has you killing enemies left and right for no reason – well, enjoyment is a reason – because the game does have a storyline and bosses to defeat with an eventual ending. For now, the game only offers about two hours of gameplay, but the developers are working on extending that through the early access period as well as adding a challenge mode later on.
So are you ready to start drinking from the skulls of your enemies after a hard day’s work of dismemberment and gurgling screams? Let us know in the comments!
