Kickstarter often holds a treasure trove of new gems to discover and that’s exactly what the upcoming Chiaro and the Elixir of Life by indie developer Martov Co. is. Now, the game isn’t actually new per sé, since it’s very nearly finished and the developers are just looking for help with that last little push to get the game ready for release.
Having been in development for over 2 years now, the studio is planning to release Chiaro and the Elixir of Life for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive sometime in July 2018 – which isn’t that far off. According to Martov Co. on the game’s Kickstarter page, the game is already playable from start to finish and only things left to be done over the next three months is to polish the game, fix some bugs and playtest the beta version. So while most Kickstarter funding expeditions leverage the risk that you might never get to see the final product come to fruition, Chiaro and the Elixir of Life poses no such risk.
Chiaro and the Elixir of Life is a gorgeous puzzle adventure game that takes inspiration from the works of Studio Ghibli and games like Legend of Zelda. Which sounds like a really promising combination in my book. In Chiaro and the Elixir of Life, you play a young engineer called Chiaro (voiced by Taylor Gray, Star Wars: Rebels) who lives in the magical realm of Neverain. He’s on about to embark on an epic journey to discover the long-lost secrets of the Alchemists – the mysterious and powerful founders of Neverain. They’re the mysterious and powerful creators of the fabled Alive Machines.
Check out the teaser trailer:
The game takes you on a quest that will reportedly last several hours, where you’ll build and form bonds with AI machines like a tea-loving steam-powered penguin, and try to delve into the secrets of the Alchemists through the puzzles they left behind. Which will lead you to the enigma at the heart of Neverain — the Fountain of Elixir. But you’ll have to get there before it’s too late. Featuring various enigmatic creatures, including a peanut butter-loving pig, Chiaro and the Elixir of Life is set to take you across a fantasy world full of new things to do and discover.
Martov Co. has raised $3,196 US by the time of this writing but hopes to raise around $7,777 ($10 000 CAD) by July 3rd. So if this sounds like a promising new adventure you’d like to take part in, then make sure to go check out their Kickstarter page. The studio has a few tiers available, but the $26 CAD ($20 US) tier will get you a copy of the game.
