Metaworld is being developed by HelloVR for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Playstation VR. The simulation game, when it’s done, will be a massively open scale world of 20,000 square miles where you can build a virtual life alongside other players online. Metaworld has been making headlines since its announcement last year. The game is now set to release on Early Access on Steam in August 2017.
Almost like a Second Life-type simulation, the game will offer lots of real-world activities and experiences. Metaworld is persistent which means that the way you interact with the environment of Metaworld is meaningful and will have a lasting effect on the game. Like if you drop something, it will stay there until someone else moves it.There will be different, procedurally generated biomes within the game, that are constantly evolving, with real-time physics. A place with cognitive wildlife, where you can explore, play and build alongside others, in a rich and ambient environment. When joining the game, you will be able to create your character in your likeness (or not) if you like. You will have an identity within Metaworld. Your avatar will be able to interact with other players in the game through VOIP and a character emotes and gesture system.

A Virtual World With Lots Of Activities, Social Options, And Opportunities
The developers are promising an experience where you’ll get to roam, populate and influence 20,000 square miles of massively scaled open world along with others. This is achieved through SpatialOS technology, which stitches together multiple servers and game engines and allows studios to create massive online worlds. The tech is still in Beta for now though. Discover endless activities and adventure, inside a real-time physics simulation allowing thousands of visitors to participate simultaneously online. When the game releases, you’ll be able to hunt, fish, play various sports, snorkel, sail, ride go-karts, and more. In fact, the developers are planning on adding a lot of activities and other features to the game.
For instance, you will be able to own real estate, which you can decorate and live in. Along with that, you can find and own things of value in the game. Every player will have a backpack so anything you pick up will stay yours until drop, trade, or sell it. You will also be able to create your own simulations and things in the game, which you can share and sell. Because the game will feature a marketplace where you can offer products and services. So you can have an actual career where you can learn real skills and earn in-game money. If all that isn’t enough – the developers are also planning a space program. So you can also become an astronaut/pioneer and colonize other worlds.
Right now, the game uses teleportation locomotion and that’s probably the way it will stay. But the developers might add other options in the future. Speaking of the future – if Second Life was anything to go by – I fear we might one day see people spend half their lives in a virtual world like Metaworld. But for now, the studio does have a campaign going on Indiegogo in order to raise more funds for the development of the game.
