After receiving critical acclaim for their work on Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light, 4A Games revealed that they’re working on an upcoming VR title for the Oculus Rift, called Arktika.1.
Now, almost a year later, the studio has announced that Arktika.1 is set to release for Oculus Touch on October 10 priced at $29.99. Though you can get the game with a 10% discount, pricing it at $26.99 if you pre-order the game via the Oculus Store.
The story of Arktika.1 takes off in the year 2120 where a last-ditch effort is being made to fight the effects of climate change which has brought about a new ice age. In a theme very similar to their Metro series, 4A Games takes you into a world where nations have collapsed, resources are scarce and you play the role of a mercenary tasked to protect your colony. Set in the Vostok region of what used to be Russia, you will have an impressive arsenal of weapons at your disposal as you fight off marauders and mutated cannibals – all in the name of Citadel Security. Even though this VR exclusive title doesn’t form part of the rest of the Metro series, 4A Games didn’t exactly try to innovate a bit on their recipe. But hey, if the cake tastes good then why change it, right?

Currently, it looks like the game still only offers teleportation-based movement so I hope this doesn’t deter from the action-packed parts of the game. At least it looks like the game boasts an impressive storyline and amazing visuals. From the gameplay I’ve seen so far, the game offers some great gameplay moments and an intriguing narrative. As one of the only AAA’s to come to Oculus this year, there’s a lot riding on it. So no pressure, 4A Games!
If you loved the Metro series and don’t have any qualms about pre-ordering games (as many people do these days) then make sure to visit the Arktika.1 store page today.
