Battle Royale games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is all the rage these days. So, you might be looking for some satisfying battle royale action in the virtual world too. Well, you don’t have to look far. Because indie game developer D.W.S. just released their first-person shooter, Until None Remain for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on Steam Early Access.
Until None Remain is a futuristic combat game set on an indoor map with noxious gasses that pushes players together. You’ll have to rush through rooms to get weapons, armor, or specialty items like jetpacks, magnetic gloves, and traps. I’m particularly excited to try out the traps and magnetic gloves to climb walls, personally. Then it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire as you dodge bullets and hide behind or climb on obstacles to get an advantage. Although, if you’re worried about too few players, as is many times the case with VR multiplayer games, then worry not – because AI bots are ready to enter the fray. So your lobby time will always be 5 minutes at the most as the game automatically fills the slots with bots.
Check out the trailer below:
The game already features a variety of weapons, though I’m sure more will be added in the future. Right now, you can play with mine launchers, shotguns, rifles, rocket launchers, pistols, knives, grenade launchers, and five types of thrown grenades. The damage you do with each is calculated based on the body part you damage, the armor your opponent is wearing, and each weapon’s penetration values. So based on the previous sentence, you’ve then probably already guessed that the game makes use of full body avatars. You would be right of course. Luckily you can find energy shields so your avatar isn’t totally vulnerable.
Until None Remain Isn’t Pretty But It’s Effective
I have to say, upon first viewing Until None Remain, it looked a little rough around the edges to me. The environment isn’t anything special to look at and there’s very little detail within the game’s design, currently. It’s not particularly inviting to the eye, to say the least.
However, the gameplay already looks solid, with fast-paced action in short bouts of 15-minute matches. And much like the popular game mentioned above, the play area also shrinks as the minutes tick by to encourage players to up their reaction times. Judging from the footage I’ve seen though, the gameplay still isn’t quite as fast as games like Counterstrike or Overwatch. Which makes sense since your reactions in VR is a bit slower than on normal screens.
Anyway, there’s a lot to offer already in the way of weapons and action, so it can only go up from here! If you want to check it out, or simply add it to your wishlist and wait for the EA run to end, then make sure to visit the Steam page. Until None Remain is available at a $7.99 price tag, though it does have a 40% launch discount, putting it at $4.79 until October 25.
You can also buy the game in a bundle with another VR title from D.W.S., Prevent the Fall, for $17.98 or $11.08 if you make use of the current 38% discount.
