When Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them released as a Google Daydream launch title, some Harry Potter fans in the VR community was a little pissed. Or to be more precise, PC VR and PSVR owners were because they wouldn’t get to enter the magical world that has mesmerized millions. Plus let’s face it, we’ve all just been hankering for an actual Harry Potter virtual reality experience. Don’t deny it.
So no official announcement of the release has been made yet, however, a listing for the game recently appeared on the German USK ratings board. This suggests that the title has been submitted for certification prior to an official release. The game is titled Phantastische Tierwesen on the website, which if you’re not familiar with the German language, means Fantastic Beasts. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also featured in a new Playstation VR Winter Showcase trailer in Japan. So the chances of an announcement in the West is pretty high.
Created by Framestore VR Studio, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them places you inside Newt Scamander’s amazing briefcase. With wand in hand, you’ll be able to perform spells and take care of the fantastical creatures in his collection. Now Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is bringing this experience to Playstation VR, let’s just hope that they update the experience a bit for the new platform. Because while the Daydream experience is great in the sense that you get to experience the magical world of Harry Potter, it feels a lot like a 360-degree movie with some interactive elements. And the whole experience is only about 20 minutes long.
That same German listing for the game also includes PC as a supported platform, meaning that the game might be coming to either Rift or Vive, or both as well. For now, though we don’t have a definite confirmation. Still, the sequel to the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie is due to come out next year and a new VR tie-in definitely makes sense. We’ll keep you updated if any new information surfaces.
