Zombies have been taking over our screens and imaginations for years now, but probably none are so iconic as the zombies from The Walking Dead universe. Beginning their humble origins in a comic book series, these zombies have since shuffled their way onto our screens and into a myriad of games. However, we’re yet to see a full VR game set in the TWD universe – unless you count the Telltale pinball VR game, which we don’t. That changes today, however, with the San Diego Comic-Con, where Skydance Interactive have announced that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is on the way. Though, we might yet see another TWD VR game called The Walking Dead VR from Overkill release just before this one does in 2019.
So soon after releasing the Archangel: Hellfire multiplayer update, Skydance Interactive is back with more VR gifts. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a VR game set in the flooded ruins of New Orleans. From the little that’s been revealed so far, it seems the game will have a central theme of choice, much like the story it’s based on, where you can “choose the path of a saint, or that of a sinner.” While the press statement released by Skydance Interactive hasn’t been clear on exactly what that means, we can guess at the types of choices one would face in a zombie-infested world where you don’t know whether the remaining survivors are friendly or not. There will be no escaping the walker or human horrors of the brutal wasteland that was once the iconic quarters.
The game is set to launch in 2019 and is being developed in partnership with Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by Eisner Award-winning creator of the The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman. “Skydance’s ability to build worlds and tell compelling stories matches with our goal to bring The Walking Dead fans new narratives and ways to engage with the world Robert Kirkman created, while staying true to his original vision,” said Skybound Entertainment CEO David Alpert and Skybound Entertainment Managing Partner Jon Goldman in a joint statement.
No supported platforms have been announced for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners but the game looks to be the first title in a planned series of VR games based on The Walking Dead.Skydance Interactive and Skybound Entertainment will be sharing the first official teaser during of the game during their Twitch livestreams today, July 19 at 12 pm PT and on Saturday, July 21 at 4 pm PT.
