Like many other gamers out there, I’ve enjoyed my fair share of zombie-themed games. Some memorable moments include nailing undead vacationers in Dead Island and avoiding crazy runners with parkour in Dying Light.
Virtual reality also has its fair share of zombie games, some of which are good and some that need to die in the pool of fetid mucus their shuffling undead left behind. Either way, it seems there’s no end to the need of developers the world over to keep the genre alive. The latest forerunner in the horde is Dead Ground: Arena from Korean indie studio VRillAR.
Check out the trailer:
Dead Ground: Arena places you in the role of a secret agent for Blackrain who sends you on missions against up to thirty different types of enemies in various environments. You won’t be helpless though, with over twenty different weapons to choose from. Armed with everything from a freeze ray to a gravity gun, you’ll have to act fast to beat the undead and complete missions like protecting hostages and VIPs. But judging from the gameplay footage we’ve seen so far, pulling zombies closer with the gravity gun and then blasting their faces off with a shotgun looks like so much fun that it might start taking precedence over completing any mission.
Fighting your way out of ever-swelling hordes in confined spaces won’t be too hard with either teleportation or smooth movement, both of which are supported in Dead Ground: Arena. Though apparently there won’t be much more to this game than showing off what you can do in the upcoming Dead GroundZ, which will offer action-packed missions in an in-depth story mode.
So if you’re still eager to get a taste of zombie flesh in virtual reality then make sure to give Dead Ground: Arena a try. It’s available now for $14.99 with a 34% launch discount on Steam until April 20. We’ll also make sure to let you know when Dead GroundZ shuffles around to a release.
