It is not often we find fast food franchises co-mingling with the gaming industry. When we do get so lucky, it’s usually nothing less than a terrifying experience. The newest training program for Kentucky Fried Chicken employees is shaping up to be no exception. However, KFC’s The Hard Way is actually intended to be as unnerving as it is educational.
With several companies turning to virtual reality for employee training, it was only a matter of time before someone decided that a little gamification could go a long way. After all, what’s better than a virtual training program that keeps employees entertained while learning? How about something you might be able to sell to the public on the side? To be fair, KFC has stated that its chicken fueled nightmare isn’t available to the public as of now. But, something tells me that this will indeed make it into our hands at some point.
Its Fry or Die Time
Future employees find themselves under the constant supervision of Colonel Sanders. His goal is to instruct them in the art of chicken prep and frying, at all costs. Sounds a little boring, but when you raise the stakes a little, this quickly becomes a twisted escape room scenario. From malfunctioning robotic assistants, to laser beams eyes and a room you are not allowed to leave until you have appeased a super creepy Colonel who drops chickens from the sky. This definitely makes for less than average training material.
KFC has definitely had its share of odd ideas in the past, but this one actually highlights some interesting possibilities for the future of VR. While the company has stated that this is just a supplement to the actual training an employee will undergo, the value of making the learning experience fun and more memorable is very practical. Personally, I can’t think of anything more memorable than being taunted by the disembodied voice of Colonel Sanders.
