Oculus has announced a new co-op heist game called Covert from LA-based studio White Elk who created the award-winning Google Daydream title, Eclipse: Edge of Light. Covert is an asymmetrical couch co-op game for the Oculus Go and Gear VR that has you pull off a high-profile heist with a friend.
The infamous League of Thieves (that’s cutting it a little close isn’t it?) hires you – a top-notch spy and their hacker friend – to steal a mysterious artifact from an impenetrable safe inside Capital City’s museum. In order to complete this mission, Covert will put some superspy staples in your hands, including high-frequency glass breakers, ziplines, and more.
So while you’ll be dodging all the lasers and zipping down to Mission Impossible music in VR, your friend will be able to assist you from a mobile device with his or her hacker-extraordinaire skills. Which basically just involves them hitting some keys really quickly and saying complicated sounding techie words like firewall and mainframe. Because that’s how it works right?
Anyways, in Covert the hacker friend will be busy enough with feeding you important intel on the location, including checking the museum blueprints, warn you about lasers and guard movements, and help you with the safe internal mechanics. So you better choose a dependable assistant or risk getting cut in half by a laser beam. Wait. I’ve just been informed that lasers outside of Hollywood don’t actually do that, and a simple alarm just goes off. Well, that’s a let-down. But still, a tricky obstacle to overcome nonetheless.

While your communication skills and ability to stay stealthy will no doubt be put to the test in Covert, the game does take place in a museum which means there will likely be a lot of interesting stuff around to see. Hopefully, there will be some equally cool spy gadgets to play with too. Though at this point we don’t know much more about the game.
No release date has been announced for Covert yet, but Oculus has confirmed on their blog that the game is set to launch sometime later this year. Though seeing a new stealth game on it’s way to VR certainly has our hearts racing in anticipation already! Another Oculus exclusive spy thriller called Defector is set to release for the Rift this year as well, so luckily no one will be missing out on getting their James Bond on.
