Resolution Games have been making some waves in the mobile VR industry with their quality releases, including Wonderglade and, more recently, Bait!. Now, the studio is releasing their next game for Google Daydream headsets, called Narrows.
Announced last year, Narrows lets you walk the plank and drop right off into a sea full of fun. That’s right, I did just make a comparison between walking the plank and fun. Because Narrows is an upcoming VR pirate adventure that takes all those pirate tropes and presents them in a colorful and fully immersive package where fun is the main aim of the experience.
The studio describes their game as “a roguelike strategy game that’s a little bit FTL, a little bit Sid Meier’s Pirates” and have now announced that the game will be coming ashore a little sooner than everyone expected, on February 15 for $9.99.
They also released a new trailer, which you can check out below:
In Narrows you play the role of the captain of The Lion’s Pride, one of the finest sailing vessels to ever grace the Caribbean. Well, in the world of Narrows at least. The trailer looks like it does a good job of showing off the different types of gameplay as you get to switch between a birds-eye view for the more tactical parts of the game, like steering the ship and maintaining your crew during battles, while you get to engage in combat in first-player view. Then there looks to be a trading mechanic as well where you get to sell stolen loot and restock your ship with ammo and such.
For now, it looks like the game will only offer a single-player experience. But after the overall success of their social VR game, Bait! we’re hoping that the studio sees the value in adding a multiplayer element to Narrows as well.
Overall though, we’re pretty excited to see what this new title from Resolution Games has to offer. Yarr, good luck to you all who dare venture on the open seas after February 15th.
