With hockey season finally upon us there’s no better way to get into the game than actually getting into the game. But, if you want a few less bruises or just hate the cold, virtual reality is the way to go. Goalie VR is one way that hockey fans can get their fix, without looking like a clown on the ice.
The Toronto based studio Hailstone Games recently released their debut game, with the intention of placing players into the role of a goalie. So, if 100 MPH pucks flying at your face sounds like a good time, this will be worth taking a look at. But, Goalie VR does have a bit more to offer.
By looking at the title of the game, you have probably figured out exactly what it’s about. You are the goalie; your only job is to defend the net from the five players firing off pucks. The game features three difficulty settings ranging from Amateur to Pro and even covers lefty players. You have the option to customize plays within offensive zone and a choice between timed play or goal-driven matches.
Goalie VR has a few ways to keep track of your progress. Watch replays, study heat-maps, or just have your friends rudely yell at you, telling you exactly what you’re doing wrong. They can do that because this game has an great way of putting five of your buddies into the game as well.
Interestingly enough, five of your friends can use their smartphones to take on the role of the attackers! To me, that just makes this game sound perfect for some pre-game shenanigans. All they will need is to download the games app and everyone can get in on the fun. Goalie VR also supports Vive Trackers, so if you own a set of leg pads get ready to dust those bad boys off.
Goalie VR is available in North America and Europe for only $9.99 with a 15% discount through October 12. You can pick it up for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on Steam. The Goalie VR Mobile App is available for iOS and Android.
