British studio Hammerhead have teased their latest project via Twitter – and it’s a crime thriller set in historical Britain. The studio has made a name for itself with VR horror projects like Abe VR and Syren. Now, they’re putting their incredible talents to the use alongside London-based studio Dimension to create a detective story set around the 1940’s.
At least, that’s what we’re inferring from the one and only picture of the game thus far, shared by Hammerhead on their Twitter page. As you can see above, the game revolves around a person or group called STEIN and you’ll be put to the task of solving some mystery around this figure. According to the tweet by Hammerhead, STEIN will have you solving cold cases linked throughout British history so it could be that the game takes you across various years.

So far details about the game is an intriguing mystery in itself and we don’t know more than what the Tweet has revealed at this point. But if the studio’s previous titles are anything to go by then STEIN should offer some spectacularly hair-raising moments. Especially paired with Dimension – the first Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture studio partner that specializes in advanced volumetric and 3D capture and makes use of 106 cameras. Which should add a new level of realism to the game and make the experience just all the more thrilling.
Plus, VR seems very well-suited to the detective genre if Rockstar’s L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is anything to go by. As for STEIN, a demo is set to launch soon, though no platforms or final release date have been announced yet.
