Last year we wrote about Header Goal VR: Being Axel Rix launching in Early Access for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The game focuses on physics based goal-kicking gameplay, with a story element that follows the life of up-and-coming football superstar Axel Rix. Now, the studio behind the game, Codemodeon has announced that Header Goal VR will be launching out of EA on August 17th for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift platforms. Not only that but the game is also getting a huge update that adds flesh-seeking, dancing zombies.
Yup, zombies in a game about football. So in some weird twist of fate, the Axel Rix character meets an alien called Agent S.C.A.R.Z. From there the relatively normal story takes a strange turn into the supernatural where you’re forced to travel to the alien’s planet as Axel and have to kick balls and fight your way to get back to earth. And I meant soccer balls, you weirdo.

Going Head to Head With Some Zombies
As the story goes, the main character in Header Goal VR was selected to become part of the England National Football Team but due to him getting a big head – and yet somehow still missing a couple of header goals and costing the team a couple of wins in a row – he was kicked off the team. So after being in the dumps, Axel Rix decides to start training hard to get back to his former glory and that’s where you come in. Progressing through the levels in the game, you’ll get to face harder challenges and see Axel reach his former glory.
The new zombie update also adds a new episode to the game with 10 new levels to complete along with a boss fight, zombie and alien enemies and new types of balls. Apparently, you have some sort of power and can shoot burning, freezing, exploding balls and some that move like missiles. Not only that, but you now will also gain the ability to turn your head into a bazooka that fires cannonballs. Now that’s something I never thought I would write.
Besides shooting balls at goals and enemies, Header Goal VR also features traps, holes and a destructible environment. So if you love football with a twist and feel like shooting some balls with your head, then make sure to check the game out when it releases next week. You can find the game on the Steam and Oculus stores with a $14.99 price tag.
