There’s a reason Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew are so popular. Not to mention the myriad other mystery themed movies, series, games, and books out there. Most people just love figuring out a good detective mystery and solving the clues alongside the characters in the story.
So what happens when, this time around, you’re the main suspect in the murder and everyone’s suspicious eyes are turned your way? Well, you solve the murder yourself of course! That’s exactly what Swedish video game and documentary production studio Impact Unified and virtual and augmented reality studio UNLTD want you to do at least. These two companies decided to put their minds and skills together in an effort to create a game that makes you both the main protagonist of the story and the outsider watching from outside.
Oculus was impressed by and recently acquired A Most Curious Murder and have announced that it will be releasing for Gear VR on February 9th. According to the creators behind the game, you’ll be tested on just how far you’re willing to go to solve your own murder. You’ll have to do some digging, wander the police station for clues, and watch some videos to get to the truth. Of course, these videos were created by Impact Unified and by making them shots of real-life actors instead of renderings, they interject some actual reality into this virtual reality game. It definitely adds a unique twist to A Most Curious Murder and elevates the realism.
Check out the trailer below:
“As you walk through the dark corridors of the police station you start thinking this might not have been such a good idea after all, but there is no turning back now. You need to figure out a way to access the computers, the computers that your friend is convinced houses the surveillance videos on the night of the murder. But is that enough? Your intuition tells you that there must be items from the murder scene somewhere in the police station that the police has somehow overlooked,” the game’s website says.
So you’ll have to do the police’s job for them since they are, apparently, somewhat incapable of conducting a proper murder investigation in this case, by putting together the puzzle yourself. Of course, there’s always a twist or two that lies in waiting with these types of things and A Most Curious Murder by definition of its name alone will probably have some too.
But so long as you’re diligent and work your way through the evidence and the story, you should be able to acquit yourself of murder. Now that’s a scary thought, isn’t it? Luckily, even though this game has a tad more reality in its virtual reality than most, it’s still just a mystery to be solved.
If this looks like something you’d be interested in then make sure to keep an eye out for A Most Curious Murder when it releases next week.
