The AAA titles just keep on coming it seems. The latest company to reveal that they’re taking a dip in the VR pool is Games Workshop in partnership with Steel Wool Studios, the creators of Bounce. They revealed that they’re working on The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth, a game that’s set in the iconic space marine’s universe.
The tactical turn-based strategy in the game is based on the Betrayal At Calth board game. It features a single player 24 mission campaign and a multiplayer PvP skirmish mode. And of course, you can choose between joining either the Ultramarine or Word Bearer factions. The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth is set to release on Steam Early Access this year (so probably within the next few weeks then) with a full release scheduled sometime in August 2018. Headset support hasn’t officially been announced yet, but the Steam store page mentions cross-platform play featuring both Vive and rift so it’s a safe bet that the game will support both.

“Our team has always wanted to play a Warhammer 40k Horus Heresy game where you actually felt like you were in the midst of the battle, where your mastery had true consequence. We can’t wait for fans like us to play this game and let us know how they feel and what we can improve on. That’s the great spirit of Early Access,” said Steel Wool Studios’ co-founder and Head of Development.

As you step into the huge armor of the space marines, you’ll get a “human-scale view” of the battlefield. Which of course just sounds epic already. Then you’ll be off as you do battle across 24 missions in the single-player campaign across 5 maps. As for the PvP Multiplayer mode, it features four maps and two play modes, including Deathmatch and objective-based matches. Upon release, the game will have the first chapter of 5 ready to play. More maps and chapters are expected to be added as development continues.
We’ll keep you updated as more news around the first Warhammer 40K VR game is revealed.
