Seeing some of your favorite classic games come to life in VR is an amazing treat. While some large companies, like Nintendo, have opted out of VR development for the time being, that is not stopping the fans from moving forward. Such is the case with Aklar_45 and his work with The Legend of Zelda in VR.
What started as a way to hone his skills in game development has become a fan favorite project, spanning the last year. While most of his work focuses around recreating The Legend of Zelda, using the Unreal Engine 4, a few VR builds have also made their way into players hands. Best of all, they are all free to download, right now.
Swinging the Master Sword
All the classic tools of the trade are present in the six different encounters currently available in VR. You can slash at Ganon with the Master Sword or take ranged shots at Stallord with your bow. We even get magic attacks to try our hand at in the Darknut fight. Of course, Navi will be at your side as always.
While Aklar mainly focuses on developing with the HTC Vive in mind, he hasn’t left Rift users completely out of fun. Most videos, where the download links are found, also include special tips for Rift users. It is worth noting that the tech demos do require full 360 degree tracking, as no turning options are available through the controller.
