Insomniac Games has seen its fair share of hits over its twenty-four years in the gaming industry. In 2016, they brought that experience over to VR. That move gave us some amazing games like Edge of Nowhere and The Unspoken. Now, it looks like they are at it again. At least, according to a recently released developer spotlight video that features the rather curious title of “Reclaiming Your World – June 7, 2018”.
The two-minute video features several of the talented folks over at Insomniac discussing what the studio feels are its strengths. However, near the end of the video, they start delivering the cryptic goods. It would seem that Insomniac Games is looking to create an open world VR adventure that embodies everything the studio is known for.
Breaking Out of 2D
According to Jose Ciceraro, the Senior UI Artist, players should be looking forward to a good story, well designed controls, and a little emotional joy riding along the way. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this teaser, is that the studio is taking a really good look at player movement. Edge of Nowhere’s third person perspective, The Unspoken’s first person view point, and Sunset Overdrive’s unique locomotion all come up. Could we be looking at a lovechild of all three, set in an open world adventure?
If we get a game that features the storytelling and control we get in The Unspoken and the awesome feel of traversing the world in Sunset Overdrive, they can take my money right now. Unfortunately, we have to wait until June 7th for any additional details. That said, it is hard not to notice that Oculus stamp on the video. When you take that into account, alongside the fact that the VR releases by Insomniac have all been Oculus exclusives, you can kind of paint a picture as to what platform they might be shooting for. We will be sure and update you as more information becomes available.
