inXile Entertainment has just released news that they have been funded $4.5 Million to produce a new open world survival RPG (VR of course). We don’t have the title of the game yet but this entertainment company has a gleaming reputation to uphold after releasing The Mage’s Tale earlier this year. inXile received this generous funding from a video game investment company in Japan called Gumi Inc. Seeing that, even after the expectedly high revenue from The Mages Tale, this company still needed an extra $4.5 Million, this game is undoubtedly going to be worth buying.
An open world VR game is a fairly new concept within the virtual reality community and if this idea can be pulled off, I am ecstatic to give it a try. Most VR games being released right now are restrictive. Generally, the game is fun but there is no personal exploration. The games are kept on track with a story and you are not able to stray from that at all. inXile has conceptually created a very ambitious video game and with evidence from The Mage’s Tale, it seems within their reach to pull it off.
The CEO of inXile, Brian Fargo, has said that he has “always been fascinated by the social dynamics of the open world survival genre and experiencing that in virtual reality will create powerful and terrifying moments.” This undertaking is massive. He is right, a survival, free-roaming VR game would be this beautiful mix of exploration, fright, thrill, and at least a couple of goosebumps.
The Mage’s Tale has, in the VR community, kept a stellar reputation with many people stating that it is the most comprehensive, fully-realized VR game thus far. With this as the standing reputation for this company, their new open world survival title will (I’m hoping) turn out even better.
For all who are wondering, inXile said this game will be released “on all platforms.” Which, is a relief to me and, I assume, everybody else in the VR community. Frankly, because this game looks like it’s going to be terrifyingly awesome. Who doesn’t love that?
As of right now, we have no specifics – nor a title – for this new game. But with inXile captaining the ship, I don’t think we have anything to worry about.
