The colorful VR RPG Karnage Chronicles will soon receive multiplayer through a gradual rollout. Developer Nordic Trolls released Karnage Chronicles in Early Access for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality in 2017. This fantasy title takes place in a magical world wherein you play as a Murkwraith – an undying knight barred from Death’s domain, and cursed to eternal servitude for sins committed eons ago.
If you’ve played the game before then you’ll be familiar with the combat system and enemies in Karnage Chronicles. But what you may not know, is that the developers have been working on getting a 2-4 player co-op multiplayer mode ready for the game. The mode isn’t ready for release yet, but the studio has announced that testing for the multiplayer mode will soon be opened to the public.
Check out this video of the upcoming multiplayer mode:
In order to ensure that the multiplayer mode gets the polish it deserves to be on par with the rest of the game, Nordic Trolls are implementing a three-stage plan:
Stage 1 – closed testing on our Steam Test Branch. Invites only. It will be a buggy experience with latency issues.
Stage 2 – open testing on our Steam Test Branch. Anyone can join. Less buggy than stage 1 and some unresolved latency issues.
Stage 3 – update live version with multiplayer. Should be loads of fun with few remaining issues. Crossing fingers.
Right now, they’re at stage 1 and want to invite those who are willing to put up with some issues while helping improve the features in the game. If you want to join then you can follow the Karnage Chronicles community forum on Steam and keep an eye out for the sign-up thread. There will be more than one batch of testers, so just keep checking back.
Nordic Trolls are also planning on adding some more action to the game via a PvP mode, depending on how the co-op testing goes. So if you’re looking forward to facing more than some goblins and trolls in Karnage Chronicles, then you may be getting just that in the future.
Back when it released, David Viex reviewed Karnage Chronicles, giving it a 8.2/10 and said “After playing Karnage Chronicles, I can’t help but see good things on its horizon. Nordic Trolls have created a great setting for a high fantasy RPG. They have also left all the right areas open to future development to make this a very long running game.
The first time I started exploring my way through a dungeon, I couldn’t help but think of how amazing RPG games could be in VR. To actually be in the dungeon exploring for loot and looking out for traps is an amazing feeling. This game, so far, is chalked full of those types of feelings and I truly think it will only get better with time.
For now, all I can say is that I love this game. Not just for what it is, but for what it could be and for what it shows us that VR can be to the RPG genre.”
