Back in September Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Playstation VR players got to travel to the afterlife on an ominous train full of strange bright-eyed crows in Manifest 99. However, the game was notably absent from the Playstation Store in the EU. No real reason was given for the delay by developer Flight School Studio, but they’ve recently announced that the game is now available for PSVR players residing in the EU.
“Manifest 99 premiered earlier this Autumn at Raindance International Film Festival in London where we were fortunate enough to be given the award for Best Interactive Narrative VR Experience. We’ve also received accolades at FIVARS and The Future of StoryTelling, here on our side of the globe. Since our initial launch, the team has been working hard to expand the availability of Manifest 99, and we are glad to say it’s coming to Europe next week,” said Creative Director, Adam Volker in a blog post.
Check out the trailer below:
Manifest 99 is a story-driven VR experience that doesn’t focus on gameplay mechanics as much as how the narrative unfolds with a little help from the player. It takes place on an eerie train rambling through an unknown void with strange characters on board. You’re set along on this journey and have to help four fellow passengers on their journey to their final destination. While doing this you’ll learn more about your companions and the stories they’re leaving behind. Interestingly enough, the game is played without any controllers and uses character engagement as a method of movement. Which is unique amongst other VR experiences. By simply gazing into the eyes of the plethora of crows on board, you can teleport to their perches and see the world from their view and scale.
“For us, Manifest 99 is an exploration of how gameplay and story can be used to support one another. You have to look our characters in the eyes, you have to engage with them to progress and, ultimately, it’s about the importance of making a true connection with others,” Volker said.
So if you’re looking for a riveting story a strange cast of characters that will pull on your heartstrings then make sure to give Manifest 99 a try. It’s available now on Steam, Viveport, the Oculus Store, and the Playstation Store for $5.99/£4.79. Though it is currently on sale across all stores, putting it at $4.49/£3.59.
