Sorry Vive and PSVR owners, looks like you’ll sadly be missing out on the chance to become part of earth’s mightiest heroes (and a guardian of the galaxy) since Oculus Studios and Disney’s Marvel has announced that they are teaming up to give Rift players the exclusive chance to unleash their super powers in Marvel Powers United VR. This game is not a huge surprise, though, since Marvel has been showing interest in VR for a while now.
Indeed, there’s a VR game in the works where you can take on the roles of your favorite comic heroes and fight alongside friends – since this is a co-op game – to vanquish evil. Announced at this year’s D23 Expo, Powers United VR will feature over a dozen playable characters. However, only three have been revealed so far, including, the Hulk, Rocket (trash panda) Raccoon, and Captain Marvel. But this is already enough to get comic fans and fans of the movies alike pretty excited.

Step Into the Shoes of Greatness
Apparently, the gameplay in the game will be mission-based and these missions will feature some famous Marvel villains as well. I’m very much buzzing with anticipation to see which villains made the cut and how they all fit into the story of the game. Presumably, there will be some sort of a storyline but I’m not sure if it will be canon. More likely than not, Oculus Studios and Marvel will have come up with their own unique storyline for the game. Or maybe they’ll just add some rudimentary narratives to justify the missions and then send you into battle to smash some expensive stuff up.
Apart from my early speculations on the game’s narrative, what’s potentially great about the game is the co-op gameplay. Since each character has widely different abilities, you will be able to collaborate with your friends to achieve awesome take-downs. For instance, imagine one player as the Hulk slamming into enemies and throwing them into the air, while Captain Marvel singes them with her blasts.
This game can potentially make for some epic fight scenes which will make a lot of hardcore Marvel fans very happy. Powers United VR is set to release sometime in 2018 – we’ll keep you up to date as more information arrives.
