Studio217 just announced that their new game, called Mister Mart, will be up on Steam Early Access today. The game, which has a similar feel to the award winning Job Simulator, has you working in a grocery store.
Update: Mister Mart was delayed, but has officially been released on 16 March 2017.
Mister Mart is an Oculus exclusive for now, but the developers say that they will add support for other platforms – like the Vive – in the future. Mister Mart also works with the Leap Motion Controller. Which is okay, but since the Touch came out, I’d expect Oculus developers to take the ‘leap’ to creating games that work with those. Luckily, they are planning on adding support for Oculus Touch controllers in the near future. But the game also works with a mouse and keyboard so if you don’t have the Leap, don’t worry.
Handle Customers and Return Items as a Customer Service Rep
So let’s start with how awesome working in retail is. No really! The store manager is always nice, you never have the urge to punch customers and working in a store is not a tedious job. However, should you feel the urge to punch a customer in Mister Mart – there would be no repercussions – unlike in real life. So this is the perfect game to take your frustration after a long day’s work out on.
In Mister Mart, you play the role of a customer service representative at a bad grocery store. Because it’s such a bad grocery store, all of the customers are returning their purchases! Use your hands to place the items into the return bin, and punch annoying customers to get them away from your desk. Try to get the highest score and keep your stress level down by returning items and getting rid of customers as fast as possible.
At the moment, there’s only one playable level, but they are planning on adding more levels soon. Along with that, they’re also planning on adding more mechanics, global leaderboards, achievements, and Steam Workshop support (to a degree) before the full title is released. The early access demo version of Mister Mart has already won the title of ‘Best in Show’ at last year’s MAGFest Indie Videogame Showcase. It also won 3rd place at People’s Choice Award at Gamescape last year.
So just like Job Simulator, this has the potential to become a breakout star. The developers haven’t revealed information on a price point yet.
