When Square Enix first announced their plans to release a Final Fantasy fishing game at E3 this year, most people thought they were trolling. But no, the company is holding steadfast to their upcoming VR fishing title where you get to chill next to the water along with some of the most iconic characters in the series.
However, more information recently came from Square Enix, as well as a new trailer, that shows that the game will see quite a bit of action. With a threatening menace lurking in the deep. Much like the title already says. So in the story mode of the game, you’ll get to head out on a fishing expedition alongside Noctis and his crew, across various locations in Eos. This fishing expedition will be all but relaxing, however, as you go through a watery battle that even has you utilizing a crossbow at some point. As for the Free Fishing Mode that Monster Of The Deep is also offering, this looks to have a more carefree feel to it, with a focus on the beautiful scenery, challenges, and rewards.
Take a look at the newly released trailer below:
So why are fans of the long-standing Final Fantasy series and PSVR players alike almost universally pissed? Well, it seems that Monster Of The Deep, which at first simply looked like a VR add-on to the release of Final Fantasy XV will actually be a standalone game. Which sounds great, but it doesn’t look like the game offers dozens of hours of gameplay, making it more of a mini-game than a fully fledged Final Fantasy title. What’s worse is that the game is going for ¥4,100 which equates to about $35 USD – though, the game is going for $29,99 in the US.
Monster Of The Deep: Final Fantasy XV is set to release for PSVR on 21 November 2017 worldwide. Though the US PS Store page says 31 December 2017 so we’ve reached out to Square Enix for clarification. Pre-orders are also available now on the Playstation Store. Are you planning on getting the game?
