Even though the popular underwater adventure game, Subnautica does have horror-like elements as well as VR support, the developers at Honor Code decided to up the ante with their deep-sea horror, Narcosis.
Narcosis originally released for PC, HTC Vive on Steam, Oculus Rift on the Oculus Store, and Xbox back in March 2017. The game’s specific mix of Thalassophobia and psychological horror has been very well-received. So, now the game is finally making its way to PS4 as well. Honor Code has announced that the game will ‘surface’ on PS4 on June 27th and will include “previously unreleased content, this will be the definitive console edition of the critically-acclaimed deep-sea survivor’s story.” No PSVR support has been confirmed yet, but the team brought their game to PC VR headsets, so it should be safe to say that they are likely to bring the game to the PSVR platform as well.
Check out the trailer:
In Narcosis you’re an industrial diver that’s stranded in your suit at the bottom of the ocean floor. Unforeseen circumstances have trapped you here and you need to find a way out before your suit’s oxygen runs out. Or your sanity does. But those aren’t the only dangers. Some unexpected events – and creatures – come to visit while you’re stuck with little light and almost no tools in these sunless depths.
So if you’re one for dark isolation then you’ll have to wait until June to get your moody thriller fix. For now, we don’t know more about the unreleased content or whether the game will be coming to PSVR for sure. But the developers have promised to reveal more soon, so we’ll keep you up to date.
