Gaugepunk Games are known for their beautiful low-poly art style, as seen in their previous two VR games, Frontier VR and Echo Grotto. We really enjoyed Echo Grotto when it came out and liked the unique visual style in particular.
Now, the studio is continuing their foray into virtual reality with a new genre – and if you’re into building model trains then this is a great time to be alive. Because Gaugepunk Games have just announced their new model train simulation game, Rolling Line will be heading to Steam on April 6th.
They also released a new trailer which you can see below:
Rolling Line is a model railway game that lets you build your own miniature train network just like in real life. Except in this game you don’t have to worry about space or wait for more trains and tracks to arrive via shipping. Plus the developer has set the game a huge, hand-crafted world that was inspired by real-world locations their homeland, New Zealand.
There are a couple of other model train games out there, like Derail Valley, Locomancer, and TrainerVR. What makes Rolling Line so special, though, is that besides the amazing visual details, you can actually shrink down to a miniature level and experience the rail network you created in human scale. Or you could just explore the premade tabletop model railway and ride the trains through beautiful landscapes while in the driver’s seat. The game also has dynamic weather to make the experience all the more real.
“This railway is designed to look, feel and operate like a real hobbyists model railroad, with stylised switchboards to control the tracks, portable hand-held controllers to drive trains, and complete control over the room’s lighting. Freely push wagons around on the rails with your hands to build up trains as long as you could possibly want, and take control of any number of different locomotives,” the game’s Steam page says. Rolling Line will let you move around freely using different locomotion options, including teleportation and grabbing the environment to pull yourself around.
Rolling Line will release on Steam this coming April for PC, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift. No price tag has been announced yet but we’ll keep you in the loop.
