Some of the best times I’ve had in virtual reality actually came from free experiences. Of course, there are amazing paid VR games out there, but that doesn’t mean the free ones should get overlooked and left by the wayside, especially if you’re looking to connect with other VR players through online games. One of the latest free titles to make its way to Steam is Guardian of Immortal Mountain by developer Bamboo Secrets. It’s an action-adventure title for HTC Vive that transports you to a mystical land within the Immortal Mountains.
The animals of this world are in constant danger from a magic tower that strips the innocent animals of the mountain of their souls, transforming them into hideous creatures. You get to play one of the magical guardians that are tasked with protecting these animals from this impending threat to their existence.
Saving Thumper From Turning Into The Rabbit of Caerbannog
Protecting the mountain won’t come easy but luckily you’re an immortal apprentice guardian with access to various magicks and weaponry to take the monsters out with. You’ll have to learn quickly on the job though, because the four towers of protection need to be restored for peace to come back to the mountain. Guardian of Immortal Mountain utilizes an arm-swinging locomotion mechanics similar to what you’ll find in Vindicta or the popular racing game, Sprint Vector. You’ll also be able to wield a weapon in each hand while you zip around in the game along with various magical abilities gained through the towers of protection.
Just take note that only chapter 5 of the game is currently available with chapters 1-4 on their way. I’m not entirely sure where the logic comes from posting the 5th chapter before the first, but there you go. Now this might not be the most polished experience you’ll find for the HTC Vive on Steam, hell it won’t even be the most polished free experience you’ll find, but if you’re a fan of fantasy and magic then this is one free experience you might want to give a try.
