San Francisco based publisher and developer RiseAngle, Inc. launched a Kickstarter campaign for the first installment of their episodic VR adventure game called Saving Princess Maya. The game follows her loyal servant Gelayon who is on a quest to save the abducted princess from Evil Kilo. In Saving Princess Maya you join Gelayon on his quest in the Dark Mazes (a sub-section of the World of Mazes) and try to help him find the princess and escape.
There are different mazes in the game. You have to learn the rules and engage with characters of varying degrees of sanity in order to progress to the next one. But you’ll soon realize that you being here to help the Princess’s servant is no serendipitous moment. It’s part of a prophecy and your actions will determine the fate of the residents in the mazes. According to the developers, the immersion and storyline will soon have you start feeling more connected with the characters and their problems. Almost like being part of the family, in a sense, you’ll want to start taking an active role in helping them. So as you advance through the fantasy world you’ll have to solve various puzzles and collect, combine and use different items in order to progress forward.
However, the puzzles aren’t the main focus like with other adventure games, the studio said. “Unlike traditional adventure games that are mostly puzzle games with limited stories, Saving Princess Maya is a game where the story is the main element yet it progresses by solving challenging puzzles. Players feel immersed in a fantasy world where they follow the story by meeting deep-personality characters, having engaging and humorous conversations, exploring mysterious levels and getting to know their unique residents and rules, collecting and combining items, and solving various puzzles,” RiseAngle said in a press release.

The developer said that they want to focus on innovative storytelling and that this is the first step towards that. “There is an ongoing conversation about the power of virtual reality and how it can impact us on a deeper emotional level – for the better or worse. We want to be the force of VR games for good.”, said Kaveh, Founder and CEO of RiseAngle, Inc.
The company plans an initial release of Saving Princess Maya for GearVR in March 2018 on the Oculus Store. Upon reaching specific fundraising stretch goals, the game will be developed and released for other VR platforms including Oculus Rift (at $40,000), Google Daydream (at $80,000), HTC Vive (at $120,000), and PS VR (at $180,000), as well as a Non-VR version.
The Kickstarter for Saving Princess Maya launched on November 1st and has raised just over $4 000 of their $10 000 goal at the time of writing this article. So if you’re interested in a story-driven adventure set in a dark maze then go check out the Kickstarter page.
