Interestingly, even with the vast promise of new and futuristic experiences that virtual reality offers, people still seem to be looking back towards the past. Which isn’t a bad thing, because now we get to experience nostalgia from the good old days in a whole new way. Last month, Sega brought their Genesis Classics collection – or Mega Drive Classics for those of you in the US – over to VR by porting the games to the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on PC. There was no indication, at the time, whether the collection would be making its way to PSVR as well, but we’ve now gotten a happy surprise from Sega. Who announced that they will be bringing their Genesis Classics compendium to PSVR in a free update.
So anyone who owns the PS4 version of the game will automatically get access to the free PSVR update and will be able to now play all 50 games, including classics like Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage 2. Along with many others, spanning across all sort of genres – from strategy games to beat ‘em up brawlers, you’ll have access to them all.
The whole game takes place in a virtual 90s-themed bedroom where you’ll get to plop down in front of the TV (just like the good old times) and play away the hours to your heart’s content. If you don’t already own the game, but really want your shot at playing all of those iconic games again, then you should be happy to hear that the title is currently part of the summer sale at the European PlayStation Store. Which means you can get Sega Genesis Classics right now for £15.99.
Another retro VR gaming title that is making its way towards release this month is Pixel Ripped. Though inspired by retro games, the title is actually brand new.
