Vertigo Games have been busy this week with not only one, but two announcements. First, they revealed that ex-Valve VR frontman, Chet Faliszek has joined on as an advisor for their new mystery game, but now we’ve also gotten a DLC for the studio’s turn-based strategy game, Skyworld.
Skyworld combines building a powerful realm and maintaining resources in turn-based rounds, with building up the perfect deck of units for when the inevitable real-time battles take place. By combining air, ground, magical, and ranged units, your goal is to expand into enemy territory by moving your troops closer and then charging their castle in quick bursts of one-on-one battles. When the game first released, it came with only one map and a few player masks for gamers to choose from. But the new Skyworld – Lost Worlds DLC, which has been added to the game in a free update, adds three new maps and some new masks to the game.
The first map takes you back to ancient times in the deserts of Northern Africa with a giant pyramid in the middle of the map and large stone obelisks to weave between during battles. The second map transports you to a deadly realm where mother nature rules with a hostile volcano in the middle. As for the third map, it takes you back to wild jungles where you’ll have to build your society around a massive tree.
Shift Your Weekend Plans
If all of that sounds tantalizing to you but you don’t own the game, then not to worry because the game is having a free weekend on both Steam and the Oculus Store which is now on until Sunday. Plus Vertigo Games is also having a 50% off sale for Skyworld until Monday May 21st, 10 AM PT. So if you decide to check it out and like the strategy title then you can get it for $19.99 on both stores.
Back when the game first released I took a look at Skyworld and gave it a 8/10 in our review: “Overall, I really enjoyed the gameplay mechanics of Skyworld, even though they are very simplified compared to major strategy games like Age of Empires or Starcraft. So I really hope that the development team adds some more depth in future updates. Although, this game makes perfect sense for the VR medium since it allows for quick gaming sessions with a lot to do and keep track of in that time. Meaning you’ll be hard-pressed to say you’re bored whenever entering a game of Skyworld!”
So if you’re up for a game of light strategy against the AI in story campaign or single-player game modes, or you want to take other players on by pitting brain against brain to see who is a more masterful strategist, then make sure to take a look at the new Skyworld – Lost Worlds DLC this weekend.
