Ever wondered what a combination of American football and Tron would look like? In virtual reality? Well, then your curiosity will soon be answered by South Korea-based indie developers Reality Reflection with their latest title, Speedball Arena.
Speedball Arena is a multiplayer futuristic sports game that essentially lets you ride around on hoverbikes in an arena. The aim of the game is simply using retractable claws to grab and throw balls into the opposite team’s goalpost. While trying to dodge the other players of course.
“Speedball Arena was inspired by the American ball game, Speedball which is a popular college sports. It brings the fun sports game to the imaginary world of VR with a twist of futuristic touch riding a hoverbike and grabbing a powerful hook gun to accelerate the gameplay with more excitement,” the studio said in a press statement. With this, the developers are hoping to set the game up for potential eSports ventures in the future.
The game was released last year on Steam for PC, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. So far it’s been pretty well received by critics and players alike. Now it’s available on Oculus Home as well. You can catch all the quick-zooming action for $9.99.

Apparently, the game makes use of simple controls that allow you to guide the hoverbike with one controller and the grappling gun with the other. The grappling gun serves a dual purpose as well, letting you grab floating hook-points throughout the arena to give yourself a little speed boost.
“We’re thrilled to launch the latest version of Speedball Arena on Oculus store. With the addition of Custom Room feature, local multiplayer gameplay became possible and users visiting VR arcades can play together in a same virtual world,” said Don Lim, VP of Business Development and Marketing at Reality Reflection.
Speedball Arena allows for 2 v 2 custom matches that let you create a room to chat and play in. Though there are bots for those days when the player pool is a little empty. Cross-platform play is also supported so you don’t have to worry about not being able to play with your friends if they own a different headset or if they’re playing on a PC.
So if you’re looking for a high speed, high stakes game that will challenge your dexterity and reaction times then make sure to head on over to the store page of your choice and give Speedball Arena a try.
