Announced earlier this year, the second VR title from SVRVIVE Studios Kartong – Death by Cardboard! has been released today for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Kartong – Death by Cardboard! is a stealth shooter that shrinks you down to the size of a toy and sets you down in a creepy little cardboard town.
The murderous toy game is releasing on Early Access on Steam for $8.99 but has a 40% launch week discount, putting it at $5.39 until November 1st. The game is also available on Early Access via the Viveport subscription service and on Oculus Home. “The game has a rogue-lite gameplay and your goal is to escape the city of Kartong, which just happens to be a maze filled with evil toys, tiny traps and weird experiments”, explains Robert Johansson, Level Designer at SVRVIVE Studios in a statement.
Check out the trailer below:
These aren’t Sid from Toy Story’s badly reconstructed toys. The malicious experiments you’ll find in the miniature cardboard city of Kartong will actually hurt you. And badly at that. You’re not completely defenseless, however, as you can scrape together a weapon made from some office supplies. It isn’t exactly a sturdy or reliable weapon but it might just get you out of a pinch.
Kartong – Death by Cardboard! combines the cuteness of scary toys with the charm of paper cuts – all wrapped up in challenging miniature/stealth/FPS gameplay. The game is currently spread out over cardboard-thin randomized maps across 15 levels. You’ll also have your choice of over 6 mediocre office-supplied weapons, over 8 types of traps and gadgets, and 2 movement systems. Kartong – Death by Cardboard! Offers a stealth movement system that supports both teleportation locomotion and a stick movement option. Over it’s EA run the SVRVIVE team are also planning to add a lot more features such as additional enemies and AI encounters as well as new map style elements.
So if you’re in the mood for a creepy but not necessarily scary game this All Hallows Eve then make sure to give Kartong – Death by Cardboard! a try. Are you ready to become the size of a deck of playing cards and just about as fragile?
The game is also set for a PSVR release on the PlayStation Store, though no release date has been given yet. To celebrate the release of Kartong – Death by Cardboard! SVRVIVE Studios is also offering a 47% discount on their first game SVRVIVE: The Deus Helix until the 1st of November, 2017.
