The aliens are invading again and bringing destruction in their wake. It looks like The Avengers are taking a bit of a vacay, however, so it’s up to the super animals to take our alien enemies head-on this time around to keep them from kidnapping the defenseless humans. Well, that’s Chinese developer ISVR’s take on how the world (at least it’s not just New York this time around) should be saved in a tower defense with a new strategic twist called Animal Force.
Animal Force has released on the PlayStation Store for PSVR at $14.99 US / £11.99 GBP and sets you right down in the middle of the action with real-time tower defense mechanics where you have to place your valiant defenders on the map while also using the PS Move controllers to engage in a bit of virtual fisticuffs with the nefarious extraterrestrials. “You aren’t relegated to being a glorified pointer in Animal Force, you are part of the action. At any time you can pick up your defenders and thrust and parry with the enemy to help defend the people of Earth,” said Yi Zhang, CEO of ISVR on the PlayStation Blog.
The game features animal antics across 28 levels and 6 boss fights, during which you’ll become acquainted with 11 uniquely fashionable animals from around the globe, each with their own superpower.

During the invasion, you’ll act as your very own version of Nick Fury, having to put together 3 animals for each level. Meaning you’ll have to take more than just their great fashion sense into account when picking your loadout. Of course, some combinations will work better than others, so you’ll have to play around to find the right power combos for each level.
Animal Force also features three local multiplayer mini-games.“We wanted to make the game super-social and easy to enjoy with friends, so in addition to the main game, Animal Force also features three local multiplayer mini-games. Simply pick up a Dualshock 4 and join the party,” said Simon Chaney, Producer at SIE London Studio in a blog post.
In “Odd One Out” the VR player is always ‘it’ and will need to find the other human players in a game of hide and seek; while the other players will need to work together to rob the VR player in “Steal the Statue”; and finally “Divide & Conga” lets you feel like the ultimate hero, where you have to pick up hapless humans and lead them to safety. Each mode supports one VR player and up to three additional players using Dualshock 4 controllers.
It might not be Kung Fu Panda, but you’ll definitely still get to show off your animal kung-fu in a superpowered match against an alien menace. So if this quirky take on the classic tower defense genre sounds like your type game then make sure to give it a try.
