When Snail Games first released their take on the dino island game, Ark Park – players were somewhat divided on the experience, but most would agree that the game didn’t really live up to their expectations. While the game certainly affords a unique educational experience and some action in the form of shooting at waves of incoming dinos in a wave shooter mode, there was some overall disappointment about the limitations of the game, compared to the open-world survival experience it’s based on.
Since its release earlier this year, the studio has released a couple of updates to the game to add more features that players want, like smooth locomotion. But none of these updates changed the gameplay in any major way. That is, until the next update will roll around in the form of a free DLC called Pterosaur Hill. This free DLC is set to come to Ark Park at the end of June and adds three new maps, new weapons, new dinosaurs, and more to the game.
The whole concept of the new Ark Park DLC revolves around flight, with each new map delivering a unique new experience. The Mountain Lake map lets you float in a hot air balloon over the pristine lake while admiring the surrounding view of the island, in addition to free use of the other land-based vehicles in the game; the Crystal Sky Lift allows you to “soar through the clouds” – whatever that means; and finally, the Aviary where you’ll be able to visit the nest of one of the largest prehistoric flying creature and gaze at the majestic Quetzalcoatlus in its natural habitat.
Finding Some Action
While all of that sounds pretty passive, Snail Games are also adding some more action to the title in the form of air battles. You will be able to hop onto a Pterosaur (a favorite amongst those in Ark: Survival Evolved who like speedy fliers) to show off your aerial dogfighting skills. Then you’ll get to traverse the treacherous Death Canyon to find the nest of a fire-breathing dragon. Luckily the developers are adding some more weapons to the game, including a Tachi sword (the precursor to the katana) and a shotgun.
Some other animals that will make it to the island of Ark Park in the Pterosaur Hill DLC include the Diplodocus, Pachyrhinosaurus (Patchy), Compsognathus (Compy), Therizinosaurus, Gallimimus, Meganeura, and the Arthropleaura millipedes which can grow to several meters long.
So if this shines a new light on the game for you, or if you’ve been waiting for some more dino action from Ark Park then make sure to keep your eyes peeled for when the DLC lands sometime towards the end of next month.
