As promised, Sony is delivering some pre-E3 goodies for PS4 owners as part of their “Countdown to E3 2018” event. Today marks the first day and it just so happens to fall on none other than World Tetris Day. What could possibly be more fitting, than the announcement of an all new Tetris game? Nothing. Coming this Fall to PS4 and PSVR, is the all new Tetris Effect.
It is hard to believe that the Tetris brand is celebrating 34 years of pissing off gamers with random “S” pieces. However, Tetris Effect is reminding us why that 34 years have keeps us coming back for more. Reinvisioned by none other than Tetsuya Mizuguchi and the folks over at Monsters Inc, this version of Tetris guarantees an entirely new experience.
Tetrimino on the Brain
Named after the phenomenon that has players seeing falling blocks long after a gaming session, Tetris Effect takes the iconic gameplay to new heights. With settings that range from the ocean floor, deep space, and various other three-dimensional worlds that react to your playstyle, players will experience the effect like never before. Every aspect of the game, from music, special effects, background and sounds are synced with the player.
At launch, Tetris Effect will have over 30 stages playable in 4K on the PS4 Pro, or on your PSVR headset. Players can also enjoy some classic game modes like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra, as well as a few unannounced modes and features on the way. Of course, what would a Tetris game be without a score? The game will feature variable difficulty settings, grading scales, and a leveling system to keep you coming back for more.
One of the coolest new features already announced has to be the new “Zone” mechanic. This allows players to stop time to save their skin, or rack up extra points. We can’t wait to hear players initial reactions to the new gameplay when the demo is made available at E3, next week. Tetris Effect will be releasing this Fall, and as always, happy line clearing VR gamers.
