Sairento VR is a first-person hybrid shooter and sword fighting role-playing game set in a reimagined future Japan. It’s currently being developed by Mixed Realms. The game is available on Early Access on Steam and has been slated for a full version release August 2017. Sairento VR supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
In Sairento, you are a member of the Silent Ones – a righteous but covert organization of seemingly ordinary people who practice the long forsaken code and martial arts of the ancient samurais and ninjas. You have been trained by a sensei skilled in the art of ancient Japanese martial arts and modern fighting.
In this game other members of the Silent Ones are turning into crazed nano-infected shells of their former selves. You have been tasked with uncovering the sinister secret behind why this is happening. In the process, you have to fight your way through multitudes of your past comrades. Face off against mutated samurais, creepy robot ninjas, and towering sumo wrestlers.
Release Your Inner Ninja
If your ninja training is lacking a bit – don’t worry, you have a lot of weapons and cool moves at your disposal as a Silent One. Pair with that an innovative combat system that’s been tested tirelessly by the development team, which allows you to slow time and parry incoming projectiles. Not only that, but you can upgrade your weapons as well – katana with hurling blade beams? Check. Plus I really like how the weapons handle and display how many bullets you have left.
And honestly, for an early access title, this game already looks great. Who doesn’t want to be a cyber ninja? You can leap 15 feet into the air, perform double jumps, run across walls or slide across the floor, all in VR.
Inspired by movies like The Matrix and Kill Bill, Sairento VR promises to be a visually stunning experience with stunning vistas set in the rich architecture and culture of Japan. “We created Sairento VR as a tribute to action-loving fans who want to experience the iconic “bullet-time” scenes from The Matrix, blended with the slow-motion mayhem of the Max Payne game series, all while looking and feeling as badass as the Bride from Kill Bill.” said the Founder of Mixed Realms, Aldric Chang.
Right now, however, the game is lacking somewhat in content and definitely needs more maps and gameplay features. But the developers are working hard on fleshing it out more. And they’re planning to add a lot more content, different environments, and a multiplayer co-op mode.
I’m really looking forward to when the full title is released. Time to practice my katana skills. Right now you can get the Early Access title for $24.99.
