You might remember that Square Enix released a chapter of Rise of the Tomb Raider last year that you can play on the PSVR. It takes you through the Croft Manor where you get to explore Lara’s home and follow clues throughout each room in the huge mansion. It doesn’t involve any combat or actual ‘tomb raiding’ unfortunately, but it’s still an interesting adventure nevertheless.
Now Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Nixxes Software jointly announced that the VR chapter is coming to Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift owners as well via the Blood Ties DLC. As part of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, the Blood Ties DLC involves Lara having to explore the Manor and surrounding estate to find her family’s hidden history to prove that she is the rightful heir after her uncle contests ownership of the family Manor. If she doesn’t she’ll lose her birthright and father’s secrets forever. So the VR chapter plays into this story and gives the player the short, if exciting, chance to actually step into Lara’s climbing boots.
So if you are a big fan of the franchise then this VR chapter will reward you with about an hour’s worth of new story that will take you deeper into Lara’s personality and her world.
If you want to give the Tomb Raider VR chapter a try then you’ll have to buy either the season pass for Blood Ties or the 20 Year Celebration Pack to play it. If you don’t already own either of those. Both are currently 50% off on Steam, so you can get the season pass for $14.99 and the Celebration Pack for $29.99 until December 8.
