Budget Cuts is almost starting to feel like one of those mythical titles that look as if they’ll will probably never get released – you know, like Star Citizen. The game was first revealed by developer Neat Corporation back in January 2016 – a whole three months before the first VR headsets actually launched. The studio then released a demo for the game, which lead to a lot of instant fans and an excited follower base for the stealth VR title. Unfortunately, those fans have had to wait quite some time for more news on the game since Neat Corporation had been keeping things under wraps for a long time after those first initial announcements.
Then the studio surfaced again in March this year with a new playable demo of Budget Cuts at the Game Developers Conference 2018. They also revealed at the event that Budget Cuts will finally arrive for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on May 16th, giving die-hard fans a new surge of hope. That date is quickly nearing, but unfortunately, the studio has now announced through a post on Steam that the game will be delayed until May 31st, citing unforeseen obstacles as the culprit. It’s not a long delay to be sure, but it will be disappointing for some nonetheless.
“The reason is simply that we want to release Budget Cuts in a state that we’re proud of and know will be enjoyable throughout the entire game (without killing our devs in the process). We’re very thankful for your understanding, and please stay around for May 31st to enjoy your brand new super-efficient robot colleagues with complimentary motivational guns! You’re going to get so much work done,” the studio said in the post.
Budget Cuts hires you for the role of an employee at a futuristic office full of killer robots. So you have to make some choices, use what weapons you can find in the office, and above all be as stealthy as you can in a bid to find your job application. The game uses some interesting portal-esque teleportation mechanics that lets you open a window to the area you point at before entering. This ought to help out a lot with keeping stealthy.
So if you’re still excited to try this game out then make sure to keep your head up, stay hydrated, and motivated to start work on the 31st.
