After two years and countless other titles being released for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, many players are still saying that Vanishing Realms is one of the best VR experiences out there and it even made Valve’s list of top selling Steam VR games last year. Players have loyally kept following the Early Access title in the hope that it will one day see a full release. Unfortunately, things are leaning a bit towards the long-term with a lot of people losing hope that Vanishing Realms will ever see it’s much-anticipated chapter 3 due to the game not having had any updates for more than four months.
However, sole indie developer Kelly Bailey, who’s a former Valve employee and the creator behind Vanishing Realms, definitely hasn’t abandoned the game – as was evident in on a recent Steam discussion thread. In the thread, a Steam user called “the_immortal” asked the developer whether the project has been abandoned, to which the developer quickly responded that the game is still being worked on. “Hi the_immortal, additional content for the game is still in the works, albeit ridiculously slowly,” he said.
A Faraway Land, In A Far-Off Game
Vanishing Realms: Rite of Steel released back in April 2016 and transports you to a magical fantasy world full of sorcery, mystical artifacts and plenty of monsters to face. There are lots of things to discover and do across the two chapters already available in this Early Access title, including searching for treasure in moonlit forests and facing the undead in long-forgotten tombs. Much like you’d expect from a fantasy-based RPG, you’ll get to wield various weapons from swords to magic, while collecting more powerful loot along the way.
Bailey has given no timeline for the third chapter of the game, though the response saying that he is still working on the game is a positive sign for those who have been waiting for a long time. Even though they’re likely to wait longer still.
Since Bailey is a sole developer, it doesn’t come as a surprise that things are going rather slowly, with the developer reportedly already having put in more than 2500 hours of work into chapters 1&2. Still, if you’re one of those players who are steadily hoping to see this game finished, then it is clearly still reasonable hope for the release of chapter 3 – someday.
