What happens when you take concepts like machine learning, affective computing, and Blockchain, then apply them to virtual worlds? Heck if I know, but I would sure like to find out. That’s where Virtual Universe comes in.
Virtual Universe is the current project of Ukledo, a Blockchain R&D company, and has some pretty interesting ideas in the works. The main goal, according to the developers, is to create an AI driven virtual world that players can explore, and trade in.
The idea of a persistent online world, complete with its own currency, is nothing new. However, VR and the continued advancements being made in the AI arena, through machine learning, are opening up new possibilities. Ukledo is working on a system, called LivingVR, that incorporates all these concepts into one Virtual Universe.
Think of it this way. The Virtual Universe is where you meet up with people and explore. Inside that universe is user created content that is governed by AI. That AI is always learning from user interactions with the content they created by buying ingame assets. The assets are purchased with an ingame cryptocurrency known as VU Tokens. This all sounds well and good, but it’s still a good way out. The company’s road-map shows that a private BETA should be launching this July, with a public version slated for 2019. The dev team does have some pretty impressive names when it comes to gaming and VR, so my hopes are high. In the meantime, I have read enough Lit-RPG to know that this is how my consciousness ends up in the Mist Village. So, color me intrigued.
