Earlier this year, a company called VR Bound announced that they will be holding the first VR Awards ceremony later this year. Up until now, there haven’t been any major awards ceremonies for virtual reality in the gaming industry, however, there’s been quite a few smaller ones like the Proto Awards as well as some major industries recognizing VR games like the D.I.C.E. Awards and The Game Awards.
The VR Awards, which will be held on October 9th, is being backed by some major brands, including AMD, HP, and Foundry. There are over 20 judges who have all been revealed and they range from Venture Reality Fund, AMD, VR Scout amongst investors and other names in the VR landscape.
On their website VR Bound describe themselves as follows: “Our goal is to help consumers in choosing their dream headset without any hassle, so they can enjoy the most immersive VR experience best suited to them. We do this by providing the right resources and tools necessary to make informed decisions, enabling consumers to understand the full potential of VR.”
“Today marks the day of an exciting announcement with several companies that are passionate about seeing immersive technologies flourish and prosper. We will continue to stand by our mission to recognize and celebrate achievement in VR, opening up more possibilities each day,” said Daniel Colaianni, co-founder, VR Bound, in a statement.
VR Bound has now also released the shortlist of nominees for the VR Awards across multiple categories. These categories span from game of the year to headset of the year. Which should certainly be interesting. Some noteworthy nominees in the VR game of the year category include Robo Recall from Epic Games, SuperHot VR from SUPERHOT Team, Arizona Sunshine from Vertigo Games & Jaywalkers Interactive, and Lone Echo from Ready At Dawn. You can check out the full list on their website.
