After spending quite some time in Early Access, the action-packed space bounty hunter game Gunheart released in full for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows MR last month. Created by Drifter Entertainment, Gunheart is a shooter filled with alien worlds and weird giant bug aliens that are just begging to be wiped out. You play a bounty hunter with a mechanical rig and a hard-on for big guns as you hop along to new planets alone or with a group of friends, to take on these squishy bugs.
Gunheart has now gotten its first major content update, aptly named the June update, which brings with it a number of bug fixes, as is expected, but also a myriad of new and updated things to do in the game. First and foremost, the movement system has been updated so you can more easily get around the environments in the game while jumping on various platforms and moving through the air; the health system has been reworked, with a lower health pool but shiny new health and armor packs to collect throughout each map. The enemies in Gunheart have also gotten some spit and polish, with them now gunning just as hard for you. Enemies will now hunt you down as well and the buzzkills enemy will zip straight for you in a frenzy to blow up as soon as they get near in a kamikaze-like move.
Those are only the small print on the underside of this update, however. Some of the biggest new additions is that you can give your rig a splashy new look with a cosmetic paint job, and the weapons aren’t the only things you can mod anymore. Rig Mods are a new addition to the game, and will allow you to do various new things from seeing enemies behind objects and slowing projectiles to being able to create AOE damage when your shield breaks. Because as a bounty hunter, you’ll want the option of having a “Nacho” or “Grellow” coloured Rig to show off to your fellow mates in space of course.

There are also two new gameplay modes that come with this update. The first is a horde mode that takes you through three rooms and 15 increasingly difficult waves with enemies who you can now also stack modifiers on. These modifiers, like cloaking and double damage, will help create an even more intense experience for hardcore players. If that isn’t hardcore enough for you, then you can try the new “Lone Wolf” mode which pits you against some of the biggest baddies in the game, all alone. Not to mention you only have one life.
So if you haven’t tried your luck at becoming the biggest bounty hunter in the galaxy yet, then make sure to check out Gunheart on Steam for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows MR, as well as on the Oculus store. It’s available now at $29.99. The game is also set to come to PSVR this month, though no word yet on whether that’s still happening.
