Cortopia Studios has announced that their magic wielding game, Wands, is now available for the Oculus Rift. The magic dueling game places players in head to head combat and looks to build a competitive following. Originally released on the mobile VR platforms, the studio hopes to build upon its existing player-base through cross platform support.
Wands will make use of the Rifts positional tracking and Touch Controllers, giving players more strategic options. You will be able to peak around objects and gain more functionality from your wands. This does raise a few questions about game balance across the platforms, but we will just have to wait and see first hand.
All Those Spells
Currently Wands has about 22 available spells, allowing players to customize their wands for whatever combat they might be facing. With a focus on fast-paced action, the spells are pretty powerful and finding your own killer combos is all part of the fun. Strategy is definitely the name of the game and players are encouraged to utilize the various maps to their advantage.
Wands is not the first VR game on the Rift that has aimed at appealing to competitive gamers. In fact it seems to be a growing trend. With the growing interest in VR esports, Oculus seems to be taking the lead in potential esport exclusives. Wands will feature a global leaderboard that will no doubt have players all over the world vying for top marks.
If you think you are up to the challenge, you can pick up Wands on the Oculus Store page for $14.99. If you already own the game, be sure to let us know what you think about the competition.
